My advocacy for the Ontario Science Centre is ongoing. Over the last year, I have heard from many constituents, and they want the Ontario Science Centre to remain where it is; in Don Valley East surrounded by nature. According to Ontario’s Auditor General, the plan to move the Ontario Science Centre is based on incomplete information and excluded important stakeholders.
I have stood in the Legislature countless times, to question this decision, and to demand better for residents of Don Valley East and beyond who have benefitted from OSC programming for over 55 years
My petition to save the OSC has received nearly 50,000 signatures. Haven’t signed it yet? You can do so here. Aside from my petition, I have also attended events in and outside our riding.
Our riding is unique; the Eglinton Crosstown and the Ontario Line, once completed, will actually intersect here. Because of this and the many changes that will occur in our community, my office has prioritized our engagement and outreach with Metrolinx early on. We attend regular meetings with Metrolinx staff for updates on transit projects.
We have also been working very closely with Build Ontario Line Differently (BOLD) and the Toronto Community Benefits Network to ensure that Metrolinx and the provincial government deliver on commitments for a Community Benefits Agreement for the construction of the Ontario Line. We want to make sure that this agreement creates economic benefits for people and businesses in Don Valley East.
We have been advocating to ensure good local jobs for members of equity-deserving communities and social procurement opportunities for local businesses and social enterprises in Don Valley East.
